Sovereign Hill - Voted Australia's best tourist attraction

The Sovereign Hill people have done a spectacular job in recreating the genuine feel of Victoria during the Gold Rush.

You'll find a completely reconstructed colonial township, with buildings that look like they've been stored somewhere for the last 150 years.

Old-time "lolly" shops, hotels, apothecary, woodturner, blacksmith and all the other establishments you'd expect to see in a town from that period.

You can

• pan for gold in the creek,
• take an underground mine tour, (also, look at our Bendigo Tour for another underground mine tour)
• ride the stagecoach through town and
• really let the diet go out the window, with one of the Sovereign Hill bakery's pastry delights. Pies, pasties, sausage rolls and pastries to make any gourmand happy. Wood-fired and very tasty.

After Sovereign Hill, (about 3-4 hours) a tour around Ballarat, a city which along with Bendigo, shows the results of gold-wealth on a city's civic architecture. A very good collection of grand colonial buildings.

Depending on whether you've had a feast at the bakery, we can have lunch in Ballarat, or go on to Daylesford.

Of course, as with all our tours, the choice is yours. If you wish to stay at Sovereign Hill, or visit the Ballarat Wildlife Park, we can change the schedule for the tour.

Daylesford is the centre of "Spa Country" in Victoria, with 50 per cent of Australia's known and active mineral water outlets and another 30 per cent located nearby. You'll notice the influence of the early Swiss/Italian migrants on the architecture of the town.

There are a couple of galleries in the town, which showcase local artists, a very good country clothing shop, along with some extremely good eateries.

For chocolate lovers, there is a dream come true at "Sweet Decadence at Locantro". A brilliant selection of chocolates and cakes to have with a coffee. There's also the "Chocolate Mill" just 10 minutes out of Daylesford, which uses fine Belgian chocolate as the base for their many creations.

You'll find one of Australia's finest boutique restaurants and small luxury hotels in Daylesford, at "The Lakehouse" on the shore of Lake Daylesford. You can have a 2 course lunch with a glass of wine for $35, which is exceptional, considering the quality of the restaurant. Ah, choices, choices.
